S13 200sx Doorcard removal- Tutorial

I always find it cool, if people show other people how they work on their cars and document their steps with lots of pictures.
I'm personally more of a "graphic-oriented" guy, so for me that really helps.

Taking off the doorcard of the S13 wasn't a big deal, as I'm somehow the one who is good with taking off doorcards in the unit haha.

But I thought I might also create a tutorial for people who have no idea yet. Because everybody has to start somewhere!

Doorcard removal:

(note this is a left-hand drive car)

This is the doorcard before I took it off. In the top right corner you can see already a screw which I took off first.

After I took off the first screw, I started to gently (but firmly) take off the plastic border around the door handle.
Looks like that:

 

The next screw is a hidden one :) Have a look at the picture.

With a flat headed screw driver you can gently take off the plastic cover over the screw (cover placed left ) and take this screw off as well.

 And thats all with the screws! How easy!

You can now start to pull off the doorcard. You can be a bit forceful but try do to it with a bit of feeling as well.

I started to grab the corner, where I took off the first screw and started pulling off the doorcard from one corner to the other.

There is some plastic-clips inside who hold the doorcard in place (and make the pulling such a hassle). 

 

Be careful before you fully take the doorcard away (after it came off), because the electrical windows are connected to some wires (of course). Looks like that: 

And that's the door without the doorcard! :)

If you look at the passenger side door, you can find this fella:

Simply unscrew it try to take it off. But it is actually tricky! You will see why in the next picture!

So in order to take that handle off, twist it around until you can snap it out of the attachment.


The passenger side doorcard is besides the handle, the exact same procedure :)

New missile car!

Last weekend something spontaneous and awesome happened!
My boyfriend and myself got a missile car together!

We weren't looking for one (in an active kind of way) but we always kept it in our mind and even have an engine for our next project already.
So somehow the universe decided for us, that it is time now and we happened to have a look at this S13! :)
Not the best engine maybe and its also a left hand drive car, but she will definitely do for the track!
I really cant wait for the next track day now as I wasn't out (except for a few laps) last year.
I'm very excited about this!
We picked up the car on Friday, gave it a good drive (man she feels good!!!) and parked her up besides my own S14.
We already stripped the whole interior (is for sale now) and started fitting coilovers.
There is not much left to do for the first track day this year, we only have to sort out a lil leak but we found the causes already.
So I consider this as halfway done!
Well, thats the new addition! :)

Update

Got a good bit done this weekend, the bumpers are more or less ready for primer and painting, only need to find out the paint code first.
Besides that, I fitted a new set of rear lights.

Not much is left to do actually, its just small bits and bobs really.

Did a good bit on the bumpers this weekend.
Must sand them down again (to see how the filler and fibre glass work looks) and then primer+paint.

Lesson learned

Today I learned, that fiber glass work isn't as easy as I thought.
Especially if you are not fully prepared.

Like it helps if you actually use measurement tools, a good brush, etc.

I should learn to be more patient, but at least I know now what I will need to do next time :D

Fibre Glass work

Today I was up in the unit again.
It was a nice, warm and quiet day in the unit as I was up during the day.
Besides being busy building up my new own business, I thought I "treat" myself with a bit of me-time and do more work on my S14.

Well, it wasn't really much work.

Besides giving the good oul daily driver a good spring clean, I finally got my hands on a fibre glass repair kit and started to get familiar with it.

I managed to actually "close" two wholes on the bumper, but I did one mistake!
I used all of the hardener and left a good bit for later, to continue bumper work in about an hours time (was distracted doing something else inbetween).

Suprise Suprise,....the hardener was.....hard!

Seems like that staff hardens quiet quickly, so I had nothing left to continue working on the bumper :(
I drove back to Halfords (2nd time today) to get more necessary stuff and also got some filler).

I will be up tomorrow again to finally finish the front bumper, gonna be a long day tomorrow!
But I shall not come back from the unit tomorrow, until that bumper is done!
Maybe the other ones too!

Fingers crossed, shit is getting done!!

Tea anyone?

There is no news but thought I would share this snapshot I took the other day.
While in the shed again, we improvised and took the kettle, some cups, instant coffee, milk and sugar with us.
I also had tea of course!

That was a brilliant idea I must say, helped a lot through that coooold night!
